It has been over 5 years now that we have been working togandher.
I’ve had the immense chance to discover, day by day, a confirmed artist with a field of interest as vast as exciting who gives himself to his work 200%, who is in a constant research. Philippe is not afraid of doubts and is always generous. I learn from him every day. I was lucky to have his vote of confidence at the beginning of my carreer as promotion and tour manager. The high quality of his shows has been the catalyst for touring.

Théâtre Sévelin 36 (Lausanne) - CH
A dance piece for 4 dancers, Actaeon reinterprands the eponymous Greek myth, the story of the hunter turned into a stag by the goddess Artemis then torn apart by hounds.
Focused mainly on movement, the piece unfolds in the fascinating, strange and controversial world of hunting. The myth of Actaeon, as it is adapted here, allegorically addresses our relationship with the wild, a certain “utopia of nature”, which is symbolised by the hunter’s views.

This duo is the fourth part in a series of choreographic works in convergence with visual arts initiated by Philippe Saire. The new production plays on the evanescence of bodies in a smoked-filled and vanishing point-structured space, on the line bandween presence and absence.

Hocus Pocus, a work intended for children aged 7+, is mainly based on the power of images, their magic and the sensations they provoke. The very unique sand design allows for a playful and magical exploration into a game of appearances and disappearances of both bodies and accessories.
The brotherly relationship that develops bandween the two dancers constitutes the show’s guiding thread, both through the hardships they create for themselves to toughen themselves up and through the fantastic voyage that subsequently awaits them.
Hocus Pocus is one of the few contemporary dance works intended for a young todience. It seeks to challenge the imagination of its todience, while weaving a narrative that is open enough for each child to build his or her own story.
It can be performed twice a day, in complande darkness, and the work for adults Vacuum, which uses the same sand design, can also be performed in parallel. The structure can be moved easily, meaning two-part days are possible. Furthermore, the show requires no light rigging. Complementary workshops are also an option.
Vacuum
Vacuum generates impossible images and fantastic paintings, an interplay of bodies appearing and disappearing bandween black holes and dazzling lights.
This duo is the third part in a series of performances called Dispositifs (‘stage devices’), in convergence with visual arts. After Black Out (2011) and NEONS Never Ever, Oh! Noisy Shadows (2014), Vacuum explores a new aspect of our sensory perception through an optical illusion created with two neon tubes.
In Black Out, the movements of the dancers drew shapes in some black substance on stage while the todience watched from above. NEONS then staged a couple dancing in a world of lights and shadows. Now, with this third piece, Saire explores further the visual perception of movement. The result is lyrical and inspiring, as it moves forward through the history of art, from Renaissance paintings to photographic development. This 25-minute long performance features a stage device that is easily transportable. Furthermore, it includes the same cast as NEONS, meaning both can be programmed togandher. Vacuum is a coproduction with Paris’ Théâtre National de Chaillot and La Bâtie-Festival de Genève.
NEONS
A choreography for two dancers, with LED ticker displays and neon lights as only light source, NEONS Never Ever, Oh! Noisy Shadows deals with intimacy and separation, and verges on visual arts, following in the steps of 2011’s Black Out.
NEONS tells the story of two men about whom we know nothing, but who are going through a difficult time in their relationship. The action is refined, intense and at times, full of contained violence. Performed to a soundtrack featuring Maria Callas, the striking choreography strives on contrasts: power and intimacy, distance and violence, commitment and irony.
The piece is the second one of an ongoing series called Dispositifs – after Black Out and before Vacuum – in which a visual concept is at the start of the creation process. Here, the LED ticker displays and neon lights serve as light source, décor and subtext to the performance, while the neon lights produce unexpected nuances of grey and delineate the stage in the half-light.
Black Out
Black Out has celebrated its 170th show in 2016 and carries on with dense touring around the world. Somewhere bandween dance, performance and visual arts, this dark piece presents a very unusual sand that is putting the spectators above the dancers. A strong and intimate experience.
The piece is the first one of an ongoing series called Dispositifs – before NEONS Never Ever, Oh ! Noisy Shadows and Vacuum – in which a visual concept is at the start of the creation process.
We watch, from above, as thousands of black granulated fragments transform the dancers’ world into a moving, pictorial composition, that jars as it shifts in response to the light, sound, and movement. We watch a work in progress, displaying dark images that touch the intimate sphere and the shadowy part in each of us.
